Louis Cerna, 82, of Decatur, IN died Thursday, September 21, 2017 at Swiss Village in Berne. Louis was born on July 8, 1935 in Robstown, Texas to the late Jesus and Maria (Teran) Serna. On March 17, 1959 Louis married Consuelo V. Villarreal. She preceded him in death on September 13, 2015.
He retired in 1996 from Central Soya as a Class A plumber with 30 years of service. He served in the United States Army from 1954 – 1957.
He is survived by six sons, Moses (Carmen) Cerna of Ft. Wayne, Mario Cerna of Kettering, OH, Louis (Terri) Cerna Jr of Decatur, Anthony (Cindy) Cerna of Powder Springs, GA, John Cerna and Alfred (fiancé Danae Ybarra) Cerna both of Decatur; two brothers, Jose Serna – Crystal City, TX and Jesse Serna Jr of Decatur; three sisters, Mary Espinola, Lupe Garza and Herminia (Jose) Montalvo all of Ft. Wayne; 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 25, 2017 at Haggard-Sefton & Hirschy Funeral Home, with calling 1 hour prior from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. Officiating will be Rev. Fr. Jose Panamattathil, V.C. Burial will take place in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, with Military Graveside Rites by the American Legion Post 43 Color Guard.
